Sega’s Yosuke Okunari considering porting Saturn games to PSN/XBLA

June 30, 2010

Sega West boss Mike Hayes has claimed recently that Dreamcast ports are the only thing on Sega’s mind right now. But Yosuke Okunari, producer of the upcoming Dreamcast ports has something that could bring joy to Saturn geeks everywhere:

Sega recently announced it would be bringing between 18-24 Dreamcast titles to Xbox Live Arcade, effectively skipping over such Saturn cult classics such as Guardian Heroes, Panzer Dragoon Saga and Radiant Silvergun.

But today, Okunari has revealed to Impress Watch that “It’s not that we’re ignoring Saturn I think you can see this, considering that we ported Nights Into Dreams and other titles. What we announced this time is a project where we will have consecutive releases of titles that were debuted on Dreamcast. Separate from this, we’re of course thinking about ports of Saturn games. It’s the same as how Sega Ages and Virtual Console were separate existences. It’s not that we have no intention of porting Saturn titles, so please share your requests.”

Could we see Saturn games hitting the digital distribution scene after Sega does all the intended Dreamcast releases? We sure hope that at least some of our most tresured Saturn games will get re-released… like say, who wants a Burning Rangers port? I know I do.
